CORE’s 2006
KING HOLIDAY
CELEBRATION
The Congress of Racial Equality – CORE- held its
21st
annual King Holiday Celebration on January 17th at the
Sheraton
New York Hotel & Towers in New York City. More than 2,200 people
attended the star-studded event.
The Chairman and keynote speaker of this year’s event was
H. E. John R. Bolton, United
States Ambassador to the United Nations

The Dinner Chairman was Rich
Bagger, Vice President of Pfizer, Inc. Recording Artist
and Grammy Award nominee, Melissa Morgan, performed “Lift Every
Voice & Sing” and the New York Chapter of the USO sang the
“National Anthem”. Rabbi Shea Hecht delivered the invocation

Honorees included: The people of the State of
Mississippi for their amazing improvements in race relations. Once a
hot-bed of racism in America and the State where more civil rights
volunteers were killed or injured including: 3 CORE workers--James
Chaney; Micky Schwerner and Andy Goodman, Mississippi now boast more
Black elected officials in than any other State in the U.S.
Mississippi Governor, Haley Barbour, accepted the award on behalf of
the citizens of Mississippi.

Also honored was superstar recording
artist, Usher Raymond, III for "Outstanding Achievement" and for
serving as a positive role model for our youth; Usher's Mom &
Manager, Jonneta Patton was also recognized for her many
achievements and for being an outstanding Role Model and parent to
Usher and her family.

Executive Director George Holmes look on.
Native New Yorkers who now reside in Texas,
The Marian Anderson String Quartet, received a Martin Luther King
Award for their Acheivements in the field of classical music

Spotlight
The Constant
String Trio

The Constant String Trio has performed at the Kennedy Center; on a
Carnegie Hall stage; as the debut artists of Musica Reginae
Productions; on the concert series of the historic sites in Old
Westbury and Philipse Manor, and several other places in the
tri-state area. They have also performed in Florida, Martha’s
Vineyard and France.
The trio has performed at
corporate functions for the New York Times, Columbia University and
Kraft Foods. They have also performed for many private parties and
numerous churches.

Pierre (20) - Viola
- is a soloist with the Little Orchestra Society at Avery
Fisher Hall, Westchester Philharmonic, South Shore Philharmonic,
Long Island Symphony and the Riverside Symphony Orchestra. He has
appeared in 3 PBS specials.
Jessica
(17) - Cello
– is a soloist with the
Westchester Philharmonic, Long Island Chamber Orchestra and has
appeared on the Syndicated radio program “From the Top”. Her chamber
group participated in the Fiscoff national competition and won. She
will graduate from Julliard Pre-College this year.
Daniel
(19) - Violin
– is soloist with the Long Island Chamber Symphony, South Shore
Symphony, and Mannes College of Music. He won 1st prize
in the Omega Psy Phi Fraternity Talent Search and won a scholarship
from the Nat’l Black Sports & Entertainment Hall of Fame. He is a
graduate of Mannes Preparatory Division.
