Mel A. Sachs, long recognized as
one of the nation's premier trial lawyers, has enjoyed a long and
distinguished career at the bar. He regularly represents litigants in
major civil and criminal cases. These cases have spanned the spectrum
for constitutional and civil rights matters to commercial and tort
litigation. Mr. Sachs' skills of advocacy and dedication to his clients
have earned him a well-deserved reputation as an excellent and vigorous
advocate.
Despite Mr. Sachs' busy professional schedule, he continues to
contribute generously of his time to teaching practicing lawyers and law
students the skills of trial advocacy at Law Schools and seminars
throughout the country. For many years, Mr. Sachs has lectured
practicing lawyers at the National College of Criminal Defense. He has
taught at Cornell University Law School, Emory University Law School,
University of Colorado Law School and Hofstra University School of Law.
In
recognition of Mr. Sachs' outstanding ability as a trial lawyer for the
underprivileged and his devotion to securing the rights of the less
fortunate, regardless of race or religion, the institute of Jewish
Humanities chose him as the recipient of its coveted "Lawyer of the
Year" Award.
He has served as counsel to the New York State Parole Officers'
Association and as counsel to the Port Authority PBA. He has been a trusted advisor to numerous public figures.
In
addition to his forensic abilities as an attorney, Mr. Sachs is a highly
talented magician, a vocation he has pursued, and has been fascinated
by, since childhood. He performs his magic for a wide variety of
charitable causes. He has devoted his time to bringing joy and happiness
onto the lives of sick children in the wards of city hospitals and the
elderly in nursing homes, by performing his magic before them. Under the
Aegis of the legal Aid Society, Mr. Sachs has performed for hundreds of
homeless children at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and for the
organization "Kids against Cancer" at the Metropolitan
Hospital and St. Vincent Hospital.
Mr.
Sachs is married and he and his wife, Grace, and their two children live
in Manhattan, Where he also maintains his law office. |
